Chamber Jazz with a Flamenco Touch
This event is presented in collaboration with:
Olivia Pérez-Collellmir is known as a “Spanish virtuoso” who adds “a flamenco touch to her chamber jazz.
Olivia is a Boston based pianist, composer, and musical director. With her unmistakable style blending Flamenco and indigenous Catalan sounds of her hometown of Barcelona, (Spain), chamber music elements, and jazz piano, Olivia has graced national and international stages capturing her life-long passion for the fusion of musical styles.
She has performed with members of Chick Corea’s band and Paco de Lucía’s band, bridging generations of flamenco and jazz through her own distinct voice. She has been recognized by Radio Nacional de España as “one of the most extraordinary pianists to emerge from Spain in the last century.”
Her album “OLIVIA”, featuring 18 stellar collaborations with national and international renowned musicians, is the story of her journey of great dedication, sacrifice and renunciation dedicated completely to playing, acting, studying, researching, composing and educating. The realization of a path of personal search and the result of the creative path of a lifetime.
Olivia has been commissioned to compose Els Set Somnis de Gaudí, a large-scale symphonic and choral work for over 200 performers, marking the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s passing and the culmination and inauguration of the Sagrada Família in June 2026. The work will feature the National Choir of Catalonia and the Philharmonia Orchestra of London under Marin Alsop, co-produced by the Palau de la Música Catalana.
In 2023, during Latin Grammy Week in Seville, Olivia served as Music Director for the recording of the Latin Grammy Tribute to Paco de Lucía.
A distinguished professor in the piano and ensemble departments at Berklee College of Music, Olivia has made history as the first Spanish pianist and, as a tribute to her heritage, she incentivized the formation of the first Berklee Contemporary Spanish Music and Flamenco Jazz Ensemble.
