2024 THEME & LINE UP

For the 2024 edition, driven by the continued desire to unleash creativity in others, to build community and create a climate of shared commitment to progress and growth, we have chosen the theme “ELEMENTS”, as a reference to Earth.

However, the focus will not be on the natural elements, but on the elements of Earth’s personality, its creative approach, elegance, unpleasantness, persistency, humor, sensibility, and more, to encourage a relational approach to our planet.

We look forward to conveying a passion that will renew a sense of wonder for our planet and heighten the understanding of why we should appreciate it.

About

Music, Arts, Conversation and More

Presenting both established and new-on-the-scene artists, and a wide variety of styles, making the festival popular with everyone, in a vibrant atmosphere.

Founded in 2021 by arts curator Luisa Harris and pianist, composer, and educator Kevin Harris, the Mission Hill Arts Festival (MHAF) was established in the aftermath of Covid’s impact as a way to offer artists the opportunity to perform after months of being on the sideline, and audiences to safely gather and reconnect.

The Festival, born of the community, has now grown to a dynamic and thriving gathering of artists and art enthusiasts, of all ages and life contexts, from Boston and beyond.

The sustaining energy and vitality of the Festival is generated by the collective desire of the community, audience, artists, collaborators, supporters, and volunteers to actively participate, to enrich one another, and be enriched by the arts.

The MHAF thrives on presenting events that include more than one medium of expression or communication. Music, visual art, poetry, dance, theater, videos, can be part of any of the Festival’s editions.

We also make the point to have a specific theme to drive the audience’s attention to consider, evaluate, and ultimately act on the human quality the theme represents.

Another distinguishing trait of the Mission Hill Arts Festival is the dedicated time to dialogue with the artists and the festival collaborators. It fosters a sense of community and openness, creating a climate of shared commitment to progress and growth.

2023 THEME & LINEUP

2023 Poster

For the 2023 Festival, we selected E X U B E R A N C E as a theme to remind us that we are strong, and capable, and creative, and daring, and that we do have a good chance of doing something new and important, with the anticipation of the joy it could bring.

Sustained by passion and pleasure, EXUBERANCE is the force that squashes the question "is it worth doing it?"

EXUBERANCE holds an excitement that cannot be bought, and it hardly fades with the years!

We look forward to having you join the conversation!

Interconnections

offer alternatives non-visible before

They can remind us that in spite of varying beliefs, identities, and differences, we have the choice to work together, to collaborate, to be inclusive instead of exclusive.

New perspectives, understanding through the eyes of others, seeing and crossing boundaries.

We can remain independent while offering to or receiving from uncommon sources.

Inspire

To move to action CREATIVELY, to fuel that wonderful essence that is in all of us!

A thought, an action, small or large, can produce amazing results.

It is not necessarily the big drastic events that spark actions of consequences. Often inspiration comes from simple acts, not always easy, but simple acts done by anyone, you, me, us, here, today.

Inspiration propels a person from apathy to possibility, and can transform the way we perceive our own capabilities.
