A Batey Comunitario is an open space for communal expression that comes from the practice of ‘bomba’ dance in Puerto Rico where individuals can participate in music and dance, creating a sense of community and belonging, and offering the opportunity for self-expression.
It is meant to honor and highlight cultural heritage, history, resistance, and community solidarity.
The performing group is led by HSTF teaching artists, experienced musicians and dancers, and youth.
Their expressive dance movements, live drumming, and the rich celebration of Puerto Rico's cultural heritage is unmistakably captivating and a call to the audience to join in!
